About Us

Hi there! We’re Justin and Hannah. First of all, thanks for stopping by our site. The internet is huge and full of amazing things, so the fact that you are here right now is awesome! If you want to learn a little more about our lives, you’ve come to the right place. We’re happy to welcome you to the craziness.

Justin

Hey, what’s up? My name is Justin.

I’m a recent college graduate who loves spending time outdoors.

When I was a sophomore in college, in the spring of 2015, I took off with my university’s travel study program and was set to have an adventure of a lifetime. I traveled across New Zealand and Australia for eight weeks, learning about each country’s culture and lifestyle. During this journey, it opened my eyes to the many new possibilities in the outdoors and showed me that it is possible to travel even on a tight budget.

It was on that trip that two of best things happened: it opened my eyes to my crazy sense of adventure and I met my soon-to-be girlfriend Hannah DeNure, who happens to make up the other half of this blog.

After the trip was over, I was certain that my sense for adventure will never be cured. Faced with thousands of dollars of student loan debt, $65,000 to be exact, it is going to be a challenge to be able to live out that goal.

I have a love for travel and a passion for the outdoors. To me, there is nothing better than getting up when the sun rises and going to sleep as the sun is setting; however, I enjoy binge-watching Netflix shows, even though once the show is over, I immediately regret the decision. I aspire to be a minimalist and truly believe that happiness is achieved by experiences and risk, and not by the materials you own.

Hannah

Hey! I’m Hannah. I am 21 years old and there are only a few things that I know, both about myself and the world around me. Yes, I went to school for something like 17 years, and yes, I love learning, but school can really only teach you so much about the world. I’m under the belief that experiences are the best learning strategy.

I love to travel. I think I’ve subconsciously known this my whole life, but this passion didn’t really come to the surface until I began college.  Sharing my experiences with others is also something that I love to do (hence why myself and Justin have started this blog). Whenever, I get back from a trip, I do basically everything in my power to convince friends and family to hit the pause button on their lives and see what I just saw, heard what I just heard, smell what I just smelled, and so on.

Don’t let my love for sharing fool you though.  I’m actually a very introverted person. However, traveling and having new experiences is really the one thing that brings me out of my shell. One thing I love about being introverted is that there’s a lot of inward thought and self-reflection. These things, I believe, allow me to really learn from my experiences and make higher level connections with the world around me.

I also have a passion for nature and being outdoors. One of my favorite sounds is when the wind rustles the leaves in the trees. I also love the sound of rolling thunder in the distance. It sounds cliché I know, but it’s true. I love the smell of summer…don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about. Growing up in Minnesota, after looonnnggg winters, the smell of summer brings with it a feeling that runs through the whole body. You can actually feel the days spent at the pool and the nights spent sitting around the campfire. I absolutely love it.

Us

In Reality…

Okay, the reality of it is that we are just two normal people who just graduated from college. We both graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation & Tourism (I know, how awesome does that sound). We have no idea what we want to do in life, but we are trying to figure it out. Not only that, we are trying to do it in the most fun and experiential way possible. We have a few passions and loves. Traveling and “the great outdoors,” to name a couple. We have a lot of interests, but who doesn’t at the ages of 21 and 22 just out of college? There’s so much of this world to explore and there’s so many wonderful ideas out there to learn about and experiment with. We hope to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel as much as possible.

Right Now…

Right now, we don’t have jobs. We have worked hard the past year and half to save up some money to take a cross-country road trip across the western United States. We’ve been planning this trip for a year and a half and just few days before the start, we’re still in the planning stages. To save up enough money, we worked two-jobs each and sacrificed a lot of what some might call the “typical college lifestyle” working every day of the week. That is, going out to the bars every weekend with our friends and getting completely obliterated. Now, that’s not to say we still didn’t have a few days in there that we let ourselves be peer-pressured (or self-pressured) into having some fun. But, for the most part, we worked really hard.  We had to say “no” a lot in order to save up enough money.

The Future…

Looming in our not-so-distant futures are the dreaded student loans, just waiting to start sending us monthly statements. We now have a little less than 6 months before we have start paying the lovely federal government and private banks back (with interest). They so graciously allowed us to “pay” our tuition while in school. That’s why we are doing this trip now. Right now, we don’t have the responsibility of showing up for work each day, and working for a paycheck that will assist in paying off our debts. We are going to take advantage of the-so-called “grace period” by driving across the country for two months. We will worry about finding our “careers” when we get back.

Speaking of jobs, we don’t necessarily believe in the whole 9-5 corporate day-job type of life…at least for ourselves. We know there are so many people that choose and love living that type of lifestyle, and that’s awesome! It’s just not necessarily for us right now. We also understand that things are constantly changing. So maybe 10, 20 years down the road we will want to work a steady, secure job.  Maybe those doing that now will want more freedom to follow a new-found passion of theirs. Life is a journey. We are choosing to take ours “mile-by-mile.”
